☀️ Summer break in cheerleading – what now?

How to stay fit, motivated and ready for your comeback
Summer break is here – no training, no choreographies, no countdowns... for now. 😎 But just because the team is taking a short break doesn't mean your motivation has to too!
Because right now is the perfect time to care for your body, recharge your batteries and develop yourself further – without any pressure, but with fun.
Here are our best tips for getting through the summer as a cheerleader – fit, healthy, and with plenty of team spirit in your heart.
🏋️♀️ 1. Stay fit – but smart
Use the break to work on your general fitness without overexerting yourself:
-
Cardio made easy: jogging, cycling, inline skating or swimming – preferably outside, with the sun on your skin.
-
Strength training at home: Bodyweight workouts for legs, core, and shoulders – ideal for bases and backs.
-
Don't forget flexibility: Daily stretching or short yoga sessions are especially helpful for flyers – and are good for every body.
💡 Tip: Create a short weekly plan with 3-4 “Cheer & Chill” units – short, effective & easy to follow.
🧠 2. Stay mentally strong
Cheerleading isn't just physically demanding—you also need mental focus, discipline, and motivation. Use the summer to build your mindset muscle :
-
Journaling: Write down what you learned in the last year – and what you want to achieve in the next.
-
Visualization: Imagine yourself clean-hitting your best stunt – your brain will train with you!
-
Relaxation: Treat yourself to conscious time out – for example, with meditation, breathing exercises, or simply a day without a to-do list.
📲 3. Stay in the cheer vibe – even without training
Sure, the gym is missing—but cheer is more than just the mats! Here's how to stay connected during the break:
-
Team WhatsApp or Instagram challenges: Who can do the longest handstand? Who posts the coolest stretch?
-
Throwback time: Post your favorite training moments or stunt fails with humor – but be fair and don’t turn it into bullying!
-
TikTok Reels: Choreography exercises, lip syncs, or summer stunts – let's get creative!
💬 Or how about a little summer meet-up in the park or outdoor pool?
📚 4. Learn new things – off the mat
Now is the perfect time for skills that otherwise don’t have time in training:
-
Analyze tumbling videos
-
Stunt technique tutorials on YouTube
-
Learn cheerleading rules & vocabulary – especially for younger athletes or new team members
-
Or: Create your own little cheer journal with goals, exercises & ideas for the new training year
💬 Conclusion: Summer break does not mean standstill
On the contrary: The summer break can be your secret power boost . No pressure, no competition – just you, your body, and your team spirit. Use the time to relax, discover, and develop while having fun.
Because one thing is certain:
The new season is coming. And you'll be ready. 📣💪
